Timber Stand Improvement (TSI)

Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) is the process of cutting, thinning, or treating trees to improve the health and structure of a woodland. While it increases long-term timber value, it’s also one of the most powerful tools for improving whitetail & wildlife habitat.

Different TSI practices include thinning, crop tree release, invasive species control, and the creation of early-succession habitat.

When woods remain unmanaged, they often become mature and open at ground level, which means there is little food availability and poor cover. TSI can open the canopy in the forest, increasing natural browse, improving mast production, better bedding areas, enhancing travel corridors, and overall hold more deer on your property.

With Ideal Land Management, our staff is well-versed in implementing any of these practices on private land to help the landowner achieve their goals.
